St. Photios Faith & Learning Symposium 2010

On Saturday February 6th, 2010, Hellenic College welcomed over fifty Boston-area Orthodox Christian college students for the annual St. Photios the Great Faith & Learning Symposium, which provides Orthodox Christian college students the venue to reflect on the relationship between their faith and their lives as college students. This year, there were student participants from the University of Hartford, MIT, Harvard University, Suffolk University, Thomas More College, Babson College, Hellenic College, the University of Connecticut, the College of the Holy Cross, Framingham State College, Brandeis University, and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology.

Faith and Learning Symposium 2010

As the only Orthodox Christian undergraduate institution in the Western Hemisphere, Hellenic College welcomes students from Boston-area campuses to its annual St. Photios the Great Faith & Learning Symposium sponsored by the Office of Vocation & Ministry. This year’s symposium will take place Saturday, February 6th in the Reading Room of the Archbishop Iakovos Library and Learning Resource Center on its Brookline campus.

This year’s keynote speaker is His Grace Bishop Savas Zembillas of Troas, who will address the theme, “Christ and Culture Revisited: Against? Transforming? Other?” His Grace Bishop Savas is the Director of the Office of Church and Society for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.

Exploring Careers through a Vocational Lens

The Office of Vocation & Ministry is once again hosting the week-long workshop series, Career Services Week, October 5–8, 2009 on the campus of Hellenic College. The week is designed to equip college students with the skills and knowledge necessary to plan for their future work. Workshops sessions include information on applying for jobs and graduate schools, as well as financial planning. Orientation Retreat 2009 Provides Opportunity for Vocational Reflection

The Office of Vocation & Ministry (OVM) at Hellenic College once again hosted the annual Orientation Retreat on Cape Cod September 6-7, 2009, asking incoming Hellenic College students to begin to consider, "Who am I and why am I here?"  OVM staff challenged participants to pursue their vocation as students of Hellenic College, the only Orthodox Christian college in the western hemisphere, to live out their vocation using their unique talents in service to God and neighbor.

Faculty Vocation Grants Updated*

The Office of Vocation & Ministry (OVM) at Hellenic College announces its Faculty Vocation Grants program for AY 2009–2010. Letters of inquiry are accepted on a rolling basis until May 15, 2010. Orthodox Christian faculty with a terminal degree in their chosen field (PhD, ThD) and all Hellenic College faculty may be eligible for awards up to $4000 in grant funding if full-time and up to $2000 if part-time or adjunct. Additionally, the OVM welcomes applications from doctoral students who have passed their comprehensive exams and can demonstrate that the project will relate to their dissertation topic. Proposals should contribute to or demonstrate direct impact on one or both of the following areas:

Paulette Poulos Shares Years of Dedication and Service to the Church

Brookline, MA- The Office of Vocation & Ministry (OVM) at Hellenic College presented its first annual Women Leaders of the Church Lecture on Thursday, March 26. It is no surprise that the OVM selected Paulette Poulos to give the inaugural address. Before a standing-room only crowd, Ms. Poulos shared her experience of service to the Church, starting in 1964 at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and culminating in her current position at Leadership 100.

Paulette stated that it was her experiences with Archbishop Iakovos that had the greatest impact on her work for the Church: "He was a visionary and innovator, really ahead of his time.
